Thank you for trying InsideGold.com

Click the "Home" tab, above, to skip this intro. You can get back here by clicking the "help" link.

The screen is broken up in to four key areas: the Dashboard, the Content area, the Options Menu and the Footer.

The Dashboard and the Content areas are the most important as they show important market information. The Dashboard can show either snapshot charts of important market data or comments on content from the site.

The Content area shows news articles, larger charts, layout controls and much more.

The Options Menu allows you to register a new account or login to the site if you already have. Once you've logged in, this menu changes and allows you to control the layout of the content area, change your profile settings and logout of the site. You generally do not have to log out InsideGold.com, but if you logged in from a public terminal, like at a coffee shop, then you may want to log out afterwards. We will explore this secondary menu more later.

Finally, the Footer contains privacy, legal and contact information for ISG Internet (the company that owns InsideGold.com)

Reading Articles

In the Content area, you can read news articles as they come in:

If you see an article you would like to read, click the title. The title will disappear and get replaced by the article. Since a large amount of the content comes from other authors and sites generally you will only see a condensed version. If you are not interested in a particular article, you can click the "Trash Can" next to the article to make it disappear. Note: if you are not logged into the site, we cannot remember which articles you have read and which you have not. Therefore, if you refresh the screen, you will see those old articles again. To prevent this, we strongly suggest you register, for free, with InsideGold.com and skipped articles will remain skipped forever.

When you click on an article title, it will be replaced with the expanded (or Opened) article, which looks like this:

Read the article. Vote, comment on it, add it to your Watch List or click the red X to close it. Note: You have to be logged in to Vote, leave Comments or use the Watch List.

After you vote (up or down), the voting buttons will disappear and the current vote count will be adjusted. 1 over 1 means the net opinion of this article is +1 based on 1 vote. Over time, with more users, an article could have +47 over 238 votes, which indicates the article is generally favored by readers, but not by a landslide. There will be a lot more information coming from the voting process, so be sure to vote on things you like or don't like. When you "skip" articles, by clicking the red X close button, no vote is recorded. You can still add the article to your Watch List or review the comments even after voting.

If you click the Comment button the dashboard will be replaced and you will see all the comment related to this article only.

Registering

Click the Login | Register button in the top right hand corner to login or register. You will be presented with the following popup:

If you already have an account, you can enter your email address and password to login. Otherwise you will need to register to create an account. Registration is free. Read our Privacy Policy in the Footer to learn how we use your information.

When registering, it is important that you fill in all the fields as they are all used to help tune the content to your needs. The most important section is when it asks about your Investor Knowledge, Mining/Geology Knowledge, and if you are a Details or Big Picture person. These factors are rated on a 1-5 scale: 1 being the lowest or, in the case of Details vs. Big Picture, 1 means Details and 5 means Big Picture. When you vote on articles this is tracked against your settings and the settings of everyone else that votes on an article. You can change these settings after registration, so don't worry.

After registration, you will be sent a confirmation email. Be sure to check your spam/junk mail folders in case this confirmation gets lost. You cannot vote/comment until you confirm your email.

You will notice that after logging in, the main menu changes to:

From here, you can review all the articles you Voted Up and Down and review your Watch List. This is useful for seeing which articles have been busy with commentary even after you read it initially.

The Dashboard
You can control the Dashboard by using the tabs above it:

The "Dashboard" tab, the default, will show you spot gold prices and the 24-hour gold spot price. There will be new options being added to the Dashboard all the time, so keep checking back.

The spot gold price is an amalgamation of gold prices from many different exchanges and is shown relative to Eastern Standard Time (EST), which means it does not account for Daylight Savings Time. You may notice some gaps or breaks in the charts; this is due to inactivity in the market or moments where there are no exchanges currently open.

Comments

If you click the "Comments" tab, you will see all new comments submitted to InsideGold.com, spanning all content.

The title of article the comment came from will be shown at the top, as well as the user that issued it and when. Only registered users can submit comments to articles. If you wrote the comment, you have the option of deleting it.

You can view threads of comments related to the same article, but we'll get to that shortly.

Options for Registered Users
As a registered, logged in user, you can get a lot more value from InsideGold.com. Some of the benefits include the ability to:
  • remember which articles you read or skipped,
  • vote on articles you like or disliked,
  • comment on articles,
  • add articles to your watch list,
  • and much more.
  • Organizing Articles

Perhaps the most important part of the site is getting news about the industry. This is the default display in the Content area.

Articles are categorized based on the topic and the type of article. Topics include, any of the following metals:

  • Gold
  • Silver
  • Nickel
  • Uranium
  • Molybdenum
  • Platinum
  • and Other metals, resources and commodities such as Oil, Diamonds, etc.

There are five types of article styles:

  • Press Releases
  • Commentaries
  • Summaries of press releases or market conditions
  • Political news that may affect mining, and
  • Other. Content that just doesn't fit into any of the previous categories.
  • By default, all users get the following layout:

  • 10 Gold Summary articles,
  • 5 Gold Commentary articles,
  • 5 Gold Press Releases,
  • 3 Gold Political articles,
  • 3 Gold Other articles, and
  • 10 Silver, Nickel, Uranium, Platinum, Molybdenum and Other articles of Any style.

If you click the "Layout" button you can change this, you will get a screen like this:

On the top you will a box for each section as it will appear on the main screen. First it shows the metals that will appear then the style of article desired. If you want the article to be opened automatically, you can set Auto-Open to True or False. Auto-Open means rather than just seeing the article title, you will get the full article box including the Voting, Comment and Watch buttons. Finally, you get to control the number of articles of each section you want included.

The buttons on the right of each section allow you to move a section Up or Down in priority or delete the undesired ones.

Underneath the sections is a place for you to create new sections. You can create as many as you like. Simply click the metals you want to monitor, the style of article, turn Auto-Open on or off and set the number of articles and click Add. The new section will appear at the bottom of your section list. You can then click the Move Up or Move Down buttons to place the section where you like.
